Coshh Workshop

A practical course designed to effectively implement the principles of COSHH in the workplace. It provides a greater awareness, understanding and provides an opportunity for action by the delegates in the normal course of their work.

You can study by attending a classroom course, involving face-to-face teaching which can be organised as an in-house course in your premises if you have a number of delegates who require training.

Designed for

Nominated CoSHH assessors, supervisors, managers, safety advisers, safety representatives, chemists and others who are responsible for the implementation and subsequent management of CoSHH and associated legislation.

Outline

A practical course utilising group exercises to confirm understanding.  The difference between the information requirements for those responsible for assessment and those who use the substances will be covered.

Workplace exposure limits (WELs) are also outlined. The importance of purchasing controls and procedures will be demonstrated through exercises.

Aims and Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to use materials hazard data sheets.
  • Demonstrate their ability to carry out a COSHH assessment.
  • Explain which types of materials are not covered by the COSHH Regulations.
  • Show awareness of COSHH Schedule 3 Biological Agents
  • Show awareness of Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs)

Content

Day 1

  • Principles of Accident Prevention
  • Overview of the Legal Framework for Health and Safety at Work
  • Occupational Health
  • Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging) Regulations 2009 (CHIP 4)
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (CoSHH) (and 2004 amendments)
  • EH40/REACH

Day 2

  • Assessment Procedures (Groupwork)
  • Control Strategies – physical,  management and special applications
  • Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (and as amended)

Duration:  2 days
