How Effective is Health and Safety Training Online?

Industry News By Matthew Coombes

Over the years ACT have delivered health and safety training in a variety of ways. Since 1993 we have been offering classroom courses, and for over 15 years we’ve been delivering e-learning training. Now, in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, we have been developing a new way of learning online.

To allow us to continue providing high-quality training to those that need it during this period of uncertainty, our expert tutors have been delivering classroom-style training as a virtual classroom via video conferencing software Zoom.

How effective is online health and safety training?

Online, virtual classroom:

Our range of online training courses brings the classroom to the living room. We use the video conferencing software Zoom and Microsoft Teams to deliver full tutor-led study days, that are in the same style as our traditional classroom courses. They’re a great method of learning for those that prefer to learn from an expert tutor, and they provide a good opportunity to discuss, ask questions and get feedback. Many of our virtual classroom courses come with full access to the e-learning product in addition to the virtual classroom sessions. This allows you to work through the course materials in your own time outside of the taught days, building on your understanding and providing you with a platform to revise from.

Our online NEBOSH General Certificate course:

The course programme includes 4 full days of tutor-led study that cover the key elements of the Unit NG1 syllabus, these 4 days are taught by one of our expert NEBOSH course tutors who have been teaching NEBOSH courses for many years. We have found that Zoom is a great way to provide a classroom-like environment, with the benefits of tutor and peer interaction, and (almost) face to face contact. We provide all of the materials that you need for the course, including a full RMS Publishing study guide sent to your preferred address.

Also included is full access to the NEBOSH General Certificate e-learning product. Accessible 24/7 via our dedicated E-learning platform, our e-learning course contains all of the knowledge and skills that you will need in order to round off your study and pass your exam. You will be able to access all of the 11 elements individually, and work through the content as and when you need it. This includes exercises, further reading, diagrams and sample questions that hep you to develop your understanding of the course content. The e-learning course contains guidance and examples on how to complete your Unit NG2 risk assessment.

We also offer optional tutorials that can be purchased separately, these 1 day tutorials are provided via zoom, and are a great way to work through any last minute questions that you may have, get guidance from an expert tutor, and confirm your understanding. They also focus on how to answer NEBOSH’s style of exam questions to get the most out of your answers.

E-learning:

Health & Safety E-learning is a great method of learning for those that do well at self-motivating their study. Our e-learning courses build upon the syllabus that has been laid out by the awarding bodies to provide you with all of the knowledge and skills that you will need in order to complete your course. Each course contains sample exam style questions, diagrams, further reading, images and more that help to make the course is memorable and thought provoking. Our online platform is live 24/7, and once you have been set up with your course license you are only ever a few clicks away from your course.

The flexibility of e-learning makes it a great choice if you have work and home life commitments that make traditional methods of training an impossibility. You can learn in small bites hour by hour, or set aside time to study as and when it comes to get your course completed and prepare for your exams. Studying over a long period of time can mean that you can start to apply what you have learned to your workplace as and when you learn it, which is a great way to reinforce your knowledge and skills through practical application.

NEBOSH General Certificate e-learning:

Our NEBOSH General Certificate e-learning course builds upon all 11 elements of the syllabus, providing memorable and thought provoking information, case studies and real life examples that help you to develop your knowledge and skills as you progress through the course. The course is approximately 108 hours of self-directed study, and includes key topics that all health and safety professionals, and those that have a responsibility to manage health and safety, should know. There are 4 elements that focus on the reasons why we should manage health and safety, and cover key management responsibilities and skills, and 7 elements that focus on specific areas that common risks may arise in such as, physical and psychological health, work equipment and fire.
