New Guidance on Maintaining Portable Appliance Electrical Equipment

New Guidance on Maintaining Portable Appliance Electrical Equipment published by the HSE

An updated version of the HSG107 guidance document for maintaining portable electrical equipment has been released by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The latest version offers advice to managers, technicians, electricians and users on how they can maintain portable electrical equipment to prevent danger in the workplace.

The guidance covers equipment that needs to be connected to the fixed mains supply or a locally generated supply and outlines a recommended maintenance plan based on a system of user checks and testing that are both straightforward and inexpensive.

HSG107 has been updated to help clarify what the legal requirement for maintenance of portable electrical equipment means in practice. The table containing suggested frequencies has also been updated and now includes clearer information for all types of industry including construction.
