About the course:

Asbestos is a fibrous mineral that was a popular construction material used frequently in commercial, industrial and domestic buildings up until it was banned from use in 2000. Inhalation of the fibres has been linked to respiratory conditions such as mesothelioma and lung cancer.
If you have no intention of removing asbestos but work on buildings built or refurbished before the year 2000, where asbestos could be present. An awareness level understanding of the risks associated with asbestos can be an incredibly useful thing to have.
This e-learning course for the provides the knowledge that people require to understand what asbestos is, the typical locations where it is found and how to work safely to avoid exposure in the event that they are working in the vicinity of asbestos containing materials (ACMs).

Course content:

The ACT e-learning course for the iAS Asbestos Awareness (AA) includes all the learning materials you will need for:

  • Module 1 – Types, nature and properties of asbestos
  • Module 2 – Risks of asbestos and effects on health, including effects of smoking
  • Module 3 – Use and locations of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs)
  • Module 4 – Legislation affecting asbestos
  • Module 5 – Avoiding and reducing risks

The course is fully online and involves 2 and 3 hours of study or less. The course is structured linearly and will guide the learner through the content until the final assessment.

Assessment:

The course is assessed with a short multiple choice exam completed online. Learners have access to one free re-sit of the assessment should they require it.

Certificate:

Once the assessment has been completed successfully, learners will be provided with a digital iAS certificate which can be saved, downloaded, and printed off.
