Zoom, a new way to learn Health and Safety skills

Construction By Matthew Coombes

But it’s not new to us!

We’ve been offering e-learning courses since we could fit them onto a CD-ROM, but a lot has changed since then, and as technology improves we’re always striving to improve with it. We already have a variety of flexible learning options that allow you to learn on a more convenient schedule, such as our e-learning and blended learning courses, and now we can even offer our clients courses taught in virtual classrooms on Zoom.

The Coronavirus pandemic has meant that we have had to change the way that we teach, and the way that learners can access courses. Health and Safety training is an important part of any successful business and we have adapted our classroom courses so that we can continue to teach vital skills to those that require training, in a way that is safe for students and tutors alike. Health and safety training online provides a happy medium between face to face and e-learning courses, combining friendly and personalised interaction with an experienced tutor, with the convenience of learning safely from your own home.
In addition to our range of certified e-learning courses, (More info:E-Learning) we now offer virtual classroom courses for:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • NEBOSH Health and Safety Leadership Excellence
  • CITB Health and Safety Awareness
  • CITB Site Manager’s Safety Training Scheme Refresher
  • CITB Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme

What are the benefits of doing courses via Zoom?

Our virtual courses are all taught by our expert tutors, every one of which has practical and relevant experience of health and safety in the workplace that relates to the course that they teach.

We have also tried to keep our virtual classroom courses as true to our tried and tested face-to-face classroom courses as we can when it comes to schedules and exercises. We believe that a learning environment thrives if learners have plenty of opportunities to interact and cooperate with others on the course, and as such our virtual classroom courses include the opportunity to work through group and individual exercises and ask the tutor any questions that you may have along the way, as you would expect from a face-to-face course.

Another great part about learning with a virtual classroom, which is especially important right now, is that you don’t have any of the hassle associated with travel – there’s no venue to drive/taxi/train to, and you don’t need to worry about the added cost of booking a hotel for courses far away from home.

What do I need for a virtual classroom course?

  1. A Zoom account – Our previous delegates have found Zoom to be a simple and easy to use software for virtual courses.
  2. Internet – Broadband, wired connection, wireless, 3G, 4G, 5G. (Public WiFi connections such as those found in a café or a library may be time-gated or insecure and should be avoided where possible).
  3. Device – A suitable PC, laptop or tablet (Phones are not recommended as the screens are too small).
  4. Microphone – Built in, USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth.
  5. Camera – HD or Non-HD, built-in or USB plug-in.
  6. Pen and Paper – For making notes during the course.
  7. Provided materials – We provide the course materials and study books that are required for you to complete the course.
