Why Mandatory Online Training is a Blessing in Disguise

IOSH By Matthew Coombes

We, along with most of the world, are hoping to get some sort of normality come 2021, and we’re especially hoping to get back into the wide world for events, exhibitions, and face-to-face training.

Until that happens we are continuing to deliver our training online as self-directed e-learning courses and via video conferencing software such as Zoom.

Many people have been making use of our e-learning software to develop their knowledge and skills while at work, on furlough or in their spare time this year, but what makes learning online so good?

Here are some reasons why learning online may actually be a blessing in disguise:

No travel for short courses:

Courses such as our IOSH Managing Safely® are typically taught in a classroom across 3 days at several locations throughout the UK, and while we try to make sure our venues are as accessible and convenient as possible, not everything suits everyone. One of the biggest benefits of learning a course like the IOSH Managing Safely® online is that there’s no travel involved, the course is around 22 hours long, and can be done completely at home with the exception of completing your risk assessment assignment based on your workplace.

No set schedule:

With health and safety E-learning courses, you’re set up with an online account that allows you to access your resources 24/7 from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. This means that you learn to your own plan, schedule and preference, you don’t have set days to attend and all of your learning can be fit around your other commitments such as your work and home life.

You’re in your own environment:

Learning online means that you can learn in an environment that suits your preferences, whether that’s at home, work or somewhere else.
Some of the main benefits of learning from home are comfort and convenience – whether you like to crank up the central heating or make sure you always have a cup of coffee to hand, you can tailor your environment to suit you. If you need to take a break to run errands or stretch your legs, our e-learning platform lets you pick up exactly where you left off last time.

Our built-in tutor support feature means if you have any questions about the syllabus, help is just a few clicks away.

And you can always ask your pet for a second opinion!
(or just use the built-in tutor support feature…)

Learn at your own pace:

Our e-learning platform is available 24/7 and there’s no need to download anything – all you need to access it is an internet connection. You can learn at a pace that suits you, and the only deadlines are any exam dates that you may have booked, or the expiry date of the course license (which can be extended upon request for a small fee).

The rest of the learning schedule is up to you – you’re free to spread your studies out over a few weekends, get it all done in a week off work, or chip away whenever you get some spare time.

The same high-quality materials as course:

Our e-learning courses have all been created based on our classroom courses, which we have been providing since 1993. All of the course materials within an e-learning product have been tried, tested, checked, updated, retested, reformatted and checked again, and as the world changes, our products change with it. Courses like our IOSH Managing Safely are accredited by external bodies and regularly quality checked to keep that accreditation, so you can rest assured that within our course is everything that you will need to pass the assessments.

However you choose to study, ACT are committed to providing high-quality health and safety training, come rain, shine, or pandemic.
