The NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals is the latest syllabus for the world-renowned NEBOSH National Diploma.

Where is the NEBOSH National Diploma recognised?

By professionals in the industry

The NEBOSH National Diploma is recognised by many occupational health and safety professionals as the golden standard of health and safety, the crème de la crème, or best in the world of professional occupational health and safety qualifications if you will.

And this is for good reason!
The NEBOSH National Diploma is a degree-level qualification typically undertaken over the course of 3 years, and the 2015 syllabus had a challenging three-hour exam for units A, B and C, followed by a written project to top things off for unit DNI.

Now, don’t get me wrong, there are higher level qualifications that you can go onto such as a masters in occupational health and safety, but most health and safety professionals don’t need that specialist level of depth in order to effectively manage the risks in their workplace.

By Universities

Being a degree-level qualification, multiple universities accept the NEBOSH Diploma as partial or full entry requirement in order to pursue a masters level qualification in occupational health and safety.

Most notably of these is the partnership that NEBOSH have with the University of Hull, whereby those with a NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management (2015 syllabus) can apply to study a Master of Science in Occupational Health and Safety Management.

Other universities that accept the NEBOSH National Diploma as full or partial entry requirement for a master’s degree are:

  • Loughborough University
  • Middlesex University
  • University of Greenwich
  • University of Portsmouth
  • University of Salford
  • University of South Wales

This is not an exclusive list, and other universities may accept the NEBOSH National Diploma too.

By professional bodies

The NEBOSH National Diploma is a Scottish Qualifications Framework Level 10. This means that it is comparable to a Regulated Qualifications Framework Level 6 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This makes the NEBOSH National Diploma a degree level qualification, and as such many professional bodies recognise the qualification for professional membership levels.

IOSH

The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) accepted the 2015 syllabus of the NEBOSH National Diploma as meeting the academic requirements to apply for Graduate Membership (Grad IOSH), which is a significant step on the ladder to becoming a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH). As IOSH are the biggest membership organisation in health and safety, becoming a Chartered Member of IOSH is seen by many professionals as a significant step to take in their career in occupational health and safety – but it is by no means a mandatory requirement for a successful career!
