In business, there is an increasing need to focus on the health and well-being of employees, from illness to equality.

Health and well-being is becoming increasingly more important with some organisations valuing health and well-being as highly as health and safety. At a recent IOSH meeting, Carlisle City Council health and safety manager Arup Majhi exclaimed the importance of focusing as much on employees’ well-being as their safety.

Well-being in the workplace encompasses a range of key topics including:

  • Illness
  • Healthy eating
  • Fitness
  • Mental health
  • Equality

The Department for Work and Pensions and the Department for Health places strong emphasis on well-being in the workplace, recognising the positive links between work and a healthy life. Reports published by these governmental departments goes as far as suggesting that a focus on well-being in the workplace can improve and even save lives.
