New ISO Standard – 45001

Industry News By Andy Taylor

A new ISO standard, ISO 45001, on occupational health and safety management system requirements is being produced by a Project Committee, ISO PC 283, with the intention of publication in October 2016.

The standard will be aligned with ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), which are themselves undergoing revision and are due for publication in 2015.

The project committee, ISO PC 283, is currently working with 50 countries and international organisations, including the International Labour Organization, to develop a standard to improve occupational health and safety for everyone on local, national, regional and international levels, in both developed and developing countries.

The second committee draft has now been approved to move to the important next step of DIS stage. We can expect to see DIS 45001 during the final stages of 2015.
