NEBOSH National Diploma E-Learning – What To Expect

Online Training By Rhiannon Davies

The NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is one of NEBOSH’s highest UK qualifications. The ideal qualification for anyone looking to build a successful career in health and safety, the National Diploma is held by over 18,000 people across the world. This qualification builds on your existing knowledge to develop an in-depth understanding of a wide range of occupational health and safety risks, and how to monitor and manage them effectively.

Our NEBOSH approved e-learning option contains everything you would learn when taking the classroom-based option, and is the perfect option for those looking to learn from home and tailor their studying to fit around work, family, and other commitments. Everything you need to complete the course can be found in our e-learning portal, which can be accessed 24/7 and wherever you have an internet connection. Our online health and safety training contains thorough and up-to-date coverage of the NEBOSH syllabus and provides exam preparation as well. We also offer support from qualified tutors if you have any questions during your studies.

Although there are no pre-requisite requirements for the National Diploma we do highly recommend achievement or prior learning of the NEBOSH National General Certificate qualification or equivalent.

The diploma is split in to four units (A, B, and C), each assessed separately, and then a final assessment (DNI) to test your understanding of what you’ve learned throughout the whole course. The assessments for units A, B, and C are three hour written examinations, taking place at two sittings per year.

Unit DNI is an 8,000 word assignment whereby  you carry out a review of the health and safety arrangements within your organisation and then produce a detailed report, including your recommendations for improving health and safety performance. Your assignment must be based on your own workplace, and you will be required to demonstrate your understanding of the role of a health and safety practitioner.  Note you are able to use a pseudonym for your company if you are concerned about privacy.

  • Unit A – Managing health and safety
  • Unit B – Hazardous substances and agents
  • Unit C – Workplace and work equipment safety
  • Unit DNI – Application of health and safety management in the workplace

Everything you need to prepare yourself for your exams is included in your e-learning package, however if you would like a little extra support then we also offer a discount on our publications for our e-learning students. This includes our range of NEBOSH Diploma study books – these books contain all the information that’s included in the e-learning materials within a full colour textbook with useful index, ideal for use as an extra study aid.

On top of our NEBOSH Diploma study books, ACT also offers a revision guide for each unit. Designed as an accompaniment to the study books, our revision guides cover the key points from the NEBOSH Diploma 2015 syllabus, in a concise and easy to understand format. The revision guides offer a summary of the learning outcomes for each unit, important diagrams, tips on exam technique, and a useful revision checklist to help you prepare for your assessment.

Revision Guides

If it’s been a while since you’ve taken any formal examinations and feel like you would benefit from some extra coaching in revision and exam techniques, ACT also organise optional exam tutorials for an additional fee. There is a different exam tutorial for each unit and they take place twice a year for each unit of the diploma course. The tutorial for Unit A takes place over two days, and the tutorials for Units B and C are one day each.

Once you achieve your diploma, you can apply for a graduate membership of IOSH as well as to become a member of the International Institute of Risk Management. Many specialised health and safety positions also value this qualification in an application. The NEBOSH National Diploma is a degree-level qualification and some universities consider it to be a full or partial entry requirement for studying for a masters qualification in relevant health and safety qualification.
