How much do the different NEBOSH courses cost?

Nebosh By Matthew Coombes

The costs for NEBOSH courses vary from provider to provider, and will depend quite a lot on the level of the award that you’re undertaking, and may be especially dependant on the amount of training days included in the course.

Different qualifications from NEBOSH are at different academic levels, and a diploma course is a higher academic level than an awareness course. This means that it takes a lot longer to teach the course, and it’s a lot harder to make the content interesting and engaging to ensure that the learners have the best possible learning experience.

There are several different levels of NEBOSH course that we offer at ACT including:

  • Awards
  • Certificates
  • Diplomas

Awards are shorter courses that are aimed at covering a specific subject. Rather than developing your knowledge in multiple areas, they focus on providing you with the practical skills that you will need in order to complete certain tasks.

For example, the NEBOSH Introduction to Incident Investigation is a great qualification for anyone that would like to conduct incident investigations. We’ve had people from all kinds of backgrounds take this course, including members of the police force, individuals looking to develop new skills, and workplaces trying to proactively follow up with incidents to prevent them from turning into accidents.

All of the NEBOSH awards that we offer are a great way to develop key health and safety skills:

  • Environmental Awareness at Work – Suitable for anyone that needs to be aware of modern environmental issues encountered in the workplace, and what we can do to reduce our impact on the environment.
  • NEBOSH HSE introduction to Incident Investigation – An essential for anyone that wants to proactively investigate incidents in order to ensure that they do not re-occur.
  • NEBOSH Working with Wellbeing – One of the best ways to understand what wellbeing is, and how it can be improved in the scope of an occupational setting. The course prepares you by developing your understanding key areas of wellbeing, and giving you a knowledge of different ways to intervene and measure success.
  • NEBOSH HSE Award in Managing Risks and Risk Assessment at Work – This NEBOSH award seeks to provide you with the HSE’s desired methodology for conducting risk assessments. The course focuses on creating risk assessment documents that do not get bogged down in paperwork or over-analysis, and instead focus on what can be changed in the here and now. The course highlights reasonably practicable, the concept of doing things that are achievable and realistic for the workplace, and prepares learners well for conducting assessments.

NEBOSH certificates are world renowned health and safety qualifications that provide you with all of the skills that you will need to effectively manage risks in a specific area of expertise. The following certificate courses all vary in length, content and commitment required, but they don’t differ in one thing, quality.

  • NEBOSH General Certificate – The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is your ‘go to’ qualification if you are looking to start a career in health and safety. The course covers everything that you will need to understand in order to effectively manage health and safety in nearly any workplace. The only exceptions to this rule are very specific industries that require supplementary training such as oil and gas, and high-risk environments whereby an ordinary risk assessment just won’t cut the mustard.
  • NEBOSH Fire Certificate – The NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety is concerned with teaching you all about the risks associated with fire safety at work. This includes risk to life and risk to property, and the course is a great step to take if you’re looking to effectively understand and manage your workplace’s fire safety and meet legal requirements.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate – The NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction is a fantastic qualification for anyone that needs to manage the risks associated with construction activities. The course covers relevant legislation (including CDM) and focuses on construction specific risks to ensure that you fully understand what needs to be managed, and how this can be done.
  • NEBOSH Environmental Certificate – The NEBOSH Environmental Management certificate is a great qualification for anyone looking to reduce the impact that their workplace has on the environment. The course takes a risk management approach to environmental issues and helps you to start eliminating environmental issues within the workplace.
  • NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Heath and Safety Leadership Excellence – Health and Safety is a whole organisational commitment. Without involvement from the top, the whole management system won’t work and accidents, incidents, and injuries will continue. This certificate has been created by NEBOSH working with the Health and Safety Executive in order to develop a course that provides leaders of organisations with the information that they require in order to effectively facilitate occupational health and safety management.

The NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals is one of the most respected health and safety qualifications in the world. The course is a Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SQCF) level 10, which is comparable to a university degree.

The course typically takes 3 years to complete and after study you can go on to undertake a Masters in occupational health and safety with many UK universities.

The NEBOSH National Diploma is a prestigious course that can set you up for a life-long career in occupational health and safety, so when compared with the costs of a 3-year university degree (Around £9,000 a year), the NEBOSH National Diploma is relatively cheap.
