Review of HSG65 - Successful health and safety management

Review of HSG65 - Successful health and safety management

The HSE has revised the occupational safety guide HSG65 - ‘Successful health and safety management’ and has introduced a web based alternate as part of a suite of documents that will replace the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations ACOP which was withdrawn in July 2013.

The main change in the guidance is that the HSE has moved away from the traditional “Policy, Organising, Planning, Measuring performance, Auditing and Review (POPMAR)” model to a “Plan, Do, Check, Act” approach.  The move away from POPMAR towards Plan, Do, Check, Act treats managing for health and safety as an integrated part of good management in general, rather than standalone as it was previously. It creates a simpler model for health and safety management that aligns with other continuous improvement models such as ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001.

‘Managing for health and safety (MFHS)’ is a new microsite that replaces ‘Successful health and safety management’ (generally known as HSG65).
