NEBOSH National Environmental Diploma

A globally recognised environmental qualification that is held by more than 2,400 people in the UK and world-wide.

The NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental Management is a highly regarded qualification for managers, health and safety professionals and environmental practitioners.  It builds on topics covered by the NEBOSH National Environmental Certificate. Students who work for organisations in all industry sectors and who are seeking to manage environmental risk will find the qualification particularly useful.

As the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma includes UK legislation it is most suitable for those who intend to work in the UK, however as the UK standards illustrate global good practice the qualification is applicable worldwide.

The NEBOSH Environmental Diploma is a prestigious qualification and is designed to provide students with the expertise required to their environmental responsibilities.  Holders of the award may use the designatory letters “EnvDipNEBOSH” after their name and are invited to the annual NEBOSH Graduation and Awards Ceremony.

The NEBOSH Environmental Diploma is recognised by the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management ((IIRSM – www.iirsm.org) for specialist membership (SIIRSM). Meets the requirements for non-chartered Member (MCIWEM) of The Chartered Institution of Water & Environmental Management (CIWEM).

Entry requirements

No previous environmental knowledge or experience is required, though students that have attended a NEBOSH health and safety certificate or diploma course will have gained a useful understanding of the UK legal system, which would be useful, and students that have attained the NEBOSH National Environmental Certificate will have an excellent foundation of environmental knowledge on which to build.

Revision and exam tutorials

Classroom tutorials are organised prior to each examination period and made available to all students as an option.  They cover the examined unit of the qualification as well as the work-based assignment, providing an opportunity to revise and consolidate understanding.  The tutorials greatly assist those that need coaching in examination technique and will increase student confidence to complete the written examinations and assignment, leading to better pass marks.

Assessment

Assessment is by a single written examination (Unit ED1) and a work-based written assignment (Unit ED2). All units must be completed within 5 [MSOffice1] years to achieve the full NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.

Examinations take place in June and December and assignments are submitted in July and January.  Study programmes are designed to lead towards these dates.

Students are awarded a unit certificate for each unit of assessment successfully achieved and an overall diploma parchment is given to students that pass all examinations and the written assignment.

Classroom based taught courses

Classroom courses provide an opportunity to discuss the topics with other students and the tutor and would suit those that enjoy interaction in a classroom environment.  In particular, it has a number of features that may be helpful to those students who have not done formal study and examinations for some time.

The full award NEBOSH Environmental Diploma classroom course involves attendance at three face-to-face study periods.  Each of the study periods are separated by a private study period enabling the application of learning to the workplace.

The study periods lead up to the separate examination days, allowing time for further private study and to attend the optional revision and examination tutorial period.

Classroom based taught courses are available in our excellent UK venue in the Midlands or they can be organised as an in-house course in your premises if you have a number of students who need this qualification.
