The e-learning IOSH Managing Safely course is for:

The IOSH Managing Safely course provides a basic understanding of the general health and safety issues that affect all types of organisation and enables risks to be managed effectively. Those that take this course, gain the understanding of how to deal with health and safety issues in the workplace, and make them aware of their responsibilities.  It also provides a sound basis for progression on to the NEBOSH National General Certificate.

Employers can train multiple delegates and monitor their progress throughout the course.  It provides a variety of online interactive activities that make it an enjoyable way to learn.  Delegates can access the course anytime and anywhere in the world.  Assessments are provided online.


The ACT e-learning course for the IOSH Managing Safely (MS) includes all the learning materials you will need for:

  • Introducing managing safely.
  • Assessing risks.
  • Controlling risks.
  • Understanding your responsibilities.
  • Identifying hazards.
  • Investigating accidents and incidents.
  • Measuring performance.

The course is available online and involves a minimum of 21 hours of study, which can be done in a flexible way to suit your availability to study during the course.  We suggest a learning plan that will take you to an assessment date. It also includes mock assessments, to prepare you for the final assessment.

You can also study by attending a IOSH Managing Safely award as a classroom course, involving face-to-face teaching in one of our excellent UK venues or we can provide similar courses at your premises through our in-house services covering the UK and international locations.

Whatever route to learning you take with ACT Academy you will still gain the same IOSH Managing Safely Award upon successful completion of the assessments.

Your online course

Now with a ‘fresh new linear design’ which takes users on an interactive journey through the core IOSH syllabus content with testing and a range of exercises along the way. 

The online course is designed to guide you through your study.  Study is broken into learning modules that incorporates pdfs, multiple choice questions, online video clips and drag and drop exercises to help explain course content in an accessible and interesting way and to consolidate learning.  Progress is tracked in the personal history file.  The e-learning course provides you with an opportunity to apply your knowledge to IOSH style assessment questions to refine understanding and prepare for the end of course assessment.

Each module includes:

  • Learning outcomes - An overview of the module and what is expected to be learnt.
  • Learning resources - Core study materials, videos, interactive exercise, sources of reference and associated legislation.
  • Learning exercises - Multiple choice and exercises to test knowledge and understanding.
  • Main learning points - Identifies the main points students should know in readiness for the assessment.

Types of interactive learning exercises:

  • Drag and drop - Interactive exercises involve completion of definitions, images and sorting items into their correct categories.
  • Workplace assessment - Requires you to identify the potential hazards and risks within a workplace and decide on control measures to reduce the risk.

Dynamic features to aid study:

  • Study schedule - a plan that includes step by step instructions, an interactive time table and assessment preparation.
  • Personal history - Tracks the percentage completed for each part within the materials.
  • Student notes - Create and print notes with full formatting options.

Resources and support

  • Fully supported by an introduction, help, FAQ, technical and tutor support messaging

Final assessment preparation

  • Mock assessments - mock multiple choice question papers are available to practice before taking the final assessment.
  • Risk assessment - Tests your ability to conduct the five stages of a risk assessment.  The exercise includes: identifying hazardous locations, equipment and substances, activities and determining the risks, controls and any monitoring required.

Final assessments

  • Final assessments – online multiple choice question paper and a workplace assessment, which is submitted by email.  
  • Allowing your assessments to be taken anywhere in the world.

Purchase of this e-learning course requires ACT Academy to setup user accounts and login details - you will receive an email confirming this is complete. Courses can only be processed and accessed the same day if purchased during the period Monday to Friday, UK time 09.00 – 16.30. Courses purchased at a weekend will be processed on the following Monday.
