iAS Audit Skills Training

This course provides a skills based approach to auditing against organisational Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives

Gain this qualification to ensure competence to conduct your organisation's audits. The qualification will demonstrate competence and professional recognition of those involved in health and safety auditing to third parties, such as customers and regulatory authorities.

ACT Academy sets high professional standards to ensure the very best in training and course support materials are provided when you choose ACT.  This course is accredited by the respected awarding organisation, the International Accreditation Society (iAS).  Our teaching methods will enable you to apply health and safety auditing knowledge and skills that can quickly and easily be transferred to your own organisation.

Designed for

This course will be of particular interest to those delegates wishing to develop, refine or confirm their generic health and safety auditing capabilities, skills and knowledge.  The course would be appropriate for those who have attended audit courses that focus principally on audit criteria rather than audit skills.

This course would be appropriate for those who wish to conduct audits at an internal level, of contractors or suppliers and at an independent third party level.  This makes it suitable for managers, as well as local or corporate health and safety practitioners.

The course is designed for those who wish to develop a positive approach to auditing, ensuring the long-term effectiveness of audit programmes and improvement in the management of health and safety.

Outline

The course will provide delegates with an appreciation of how to organise and conduct effective first, second and third party health and safety audits.  It deals with fundamental techniques that reflect the principles established in ISO 19011 “Guidelines for Management System Auditing”, which are applicable to any audit system.

The course considers the important elements of the health and safety policy/management system/programmes (intent, standards and implementation guidance) to show how their correct use is combined to create an effective management 'tool'.  Students develop an understanding of a framework of audit protocols, including planning, auditor competence, evidence gathering and audit sampling strategies.

Through a series of practical exercises delegates are also shown how to develop audit checklists relevant to their organisation, to enable them to measure compliance in the workplace.  The importance of the evaluation of technical, procedural and people standards is also developed through practical exercises.  The relationship of these standards and the reasons for non-compliance, form the core of the three day course.  The course is designed to develop or enhance the auditor’s skill of communication with those they are auditing.

This is a generic audit skills course, the principles and techniques can be transferred to enable audits against your own protocols or standards like ILO OSH-2001 and BS OHSAS 18001.  The qualification provides exemption from Paper 1 – “Audit Principles” of the iAS OHSAS 18001 Auditor/Lead Auditor award enabling delegates to progress from application of their generic skills to audits against the BS OHSAS 18001 standard by taking the iAS OHSAS 18001 Auditor/Lead Auditor Conversion course.
