NEBOSH International Diploma - e-learning

A globally recognised health and safety qualification for health and safety practitioners.

The NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is a globally recognised health and safety qualification for aspiring health and safety professionals. People that hold this qualification are much sought after by employers looking for practitioners in this fast changing and worthwhile profession.  The NEBOSH International Diploma takes a risk management approach based on best practice and international standards, such as International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions, recommendations and codes of practice.  Special reference is made to the ILO’s “Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems” (ILO-OSH 2001).

Employers can train multiple students and monitor their progress throughout the course.  It provides a variety of online interaction activities that make it an enjoyable way to learn.

The e-learning NEBOSH International Diploma is an excellent course for:

If you intend to work in the UK the NEBOSH National Diploma may be more suitable as it contains reference to UK legislation and standards.

The NEBOSH International Diploma is a prestigious qualification and is designed to provide students with the expertise required to undertake a career as a health and safety practitioner and provides a sound basis for progression to postgraduate study, for example the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma or MSc.

Content

The ACT e-learning course for the NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety includes learning materials for the following units of the qualification:

  • Unit IA – International Management of Health and Safely
  • Unit IB – International Management of Hazardous Agents in the Workplace
  • Unit IC – International Workplace and Work Equipment Safety

The course is available online and involves a total of 456 hours of study, which can be done in a flexible way to suit your availability to study during the course.  This is made up of 154 hours of study for Unit IA, 121 hours of study for Unit IB and 125 hours of study for Unit IC.  We will agree a learning plan that will take you to agreed examination and assignment submission dates. It also includes revision and examination practice papers, including the option of carrying out a mock exam.

You can also study by attending a NEBOSH International Diploma as a classroom course, involving face-to-face teaching in one of our excellent UK venues or we can provide similar courses at your premises through our in-house services covering the UK and international locations. 

Whatever route to learning you take with ACT Academy you will still sit and gain the same NEBOSH International Diploma qualification upon successful completion of the two written examination papers and practical examination.

Your online course

The online course is designed to guide you through your study.  Study is broken into learning elements that have exercises and tasks to consolidate learning.  Progress is tracked in the personal history file.  The e-learning course provides you with an opportunity to apply your knowledge to NEBOSH examination style questions to refine understanding and prepare for the examination.

Each element includes:

  • Active time management - Tracks and records study time within the materials, exercises and assessments. Coupled with the study schedule helps students manage their time and achieve their targets.
  • Learning outcomes - An overview of the element and what is expected to be learnt.
  • Learning resources - Core study materials, videos, sources of reference and associated legislation (UK).
  • Learning exercises - Multiple choice and written exercises to test knowledge and understanding, backed up by suggested answers.
  • Confirmation of understanding tasks - Additional exercises to help confirm understanding and reinforce the knowledge gained.

Five new types of interactive learning exercises

  • Hazard identification – This interactive exercise tests your ability to identify potential hazards in an image of a real workplace situation.
  • Drag and Drop - Interactive exercises involve completion of definitions, images and sorting items into their correct categories.
  • Risk assessment - Requires you to review a completed risk assessment and answer questions based on the ‘5 steps approach’ to risk assessment.
  • Workplace inspection - Requires you to review an image of a workplace, identify the hazards or good working practices and recommend suitable controls.
  • Unit ID assignment practice – Marked, critiqued and feedback provided by tutor. 

Dynamic features to aid study:

  • Study schedule – A study plan that includes step by step instructions, an interactive time table and examination preparation.
  • Personal history - Tracks all exercises and study time broken down by element.
  • Student notes - Create and print notes with full formatting options.
  • Relevant statutory provisions (UK)

Examination Preparation

  • Examination practice - Sit a time based assessment, in preparation for the examination.
  • Mock examination paper - Sit a mock examination paper, in preparation for the examination. Includes model answers and marking guidance

This fully supported e-learning course includes 12 months tutor e-mail support for each unit purchased.

Purchase of this e-learning course requires ACT Academy to setup user accounts and login details - you will receive an email confirming this is complete. Courses can only be processed and accessed the same day if purchased during the period Monday to Friday, UK time 09.00 – 16.30. Courses purchased at a weekend will be processed on the following Monday.

Assessment

Learning is assessed by one written examination for each taught unit, IA, IB and IC.  A workplace-based written assignment, Unit ID – “Application of health and safety theory and practice”, is set and marked by NEBOSH.  All units must be completed within 5 years to achieve the full NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.

Examinations take place in January and July and assignments are submitted in March, August and November. Study programmes are designed to lead towards these dates.
