Those responsible for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) at work, as well as employees who use hazardous substances in manufacturing, cleaning, healthcare, transport, utilities and offices. 

Outline

This course will benefit anyone working with hazardous substances in a workplace and the programme focuses on the information employees need to know regarding substance hazards and their control.

Aims and Objectives

Successful completion of the course and assessment will enable delegates to understand:

  • The scope of hazardous substances in the workplace
  • The range of legislation covering hazardous substances
  • How hazardous substances adversely affect health
  • Methods of identification for hazardous substances
  • Sources of guidance available for the safe use of hazardous substances
  • The range of control measures available for the safe use of hazardous substances
  • The purpose and content of COSHH assessments

  • COSHH regulations
  • Health problems
  • Identifying hazardous substances
  • Controlling hazardous substances
  • COSHH assessments

Entry requirements

We recommend the Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace or equivalent. 

The CIEH Principles of COSHH qualification complements the CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace by introducing the inherent risks in substances and the controls available.

Course materials

Provided on the course is a copy of the CIEH course book “Principles of COSHH” which covers the syllabus for the CIEH Level 2 Award in the Principles of COSHH. 

Assessment

Successful participants will be awarded a CIEH certificate.

The CIEH recommend refresher training every 3 years.

You can study by attending a classroom course, involving face-to-face teaching which can be organised as an in-house course in your premises if you have a number of students who need this qualification.
